Long Vacation?

I am hoping she will join me for a long vacation. I hope she does. If not, ah well, time to close the chapter, or rather, the book.

Crowded SITEX

I was walking around SITEX today and the crowd there was madness! However, in that madness, something very strange happened. I paid for an item but when I checked the item on the spot, I still had not realised the mistake. It was only when I reached home did I realised what happened. Instead of the model that I had paid for, I was issued another higher-end model instead?!?!

The Office Party!

Went to watch the play put up by SRT, The Office Party, yesterday. It was a humourous look at parties in office and quite enjoyable. Didn't expect to be mooned so many times though! Hahaha!

Cycling In Pulau Ubin

Went cycling with some of my boys from my CCA today in Pulau Ubin. I wanted to stay away from today's event because officially I am not supposed to be in Singapore and thus should not be involved in this event. However, since my trip is being postponed till my partner can sort things out at the workplace, it is still in limbo. Sigh.

Anyway, today's trip was more for me to recce the island for the potential campsites for a camp next year and i really wanted to find campsites which were out of the place so that all forms of convenience is removed. Unfortunately, the rubber plantation site does not allow for camping there anymore. Went hunting for the campsite inside the plantation beside NPCC campsite but that plot of land has since been taken over by NPCC's expansion. Arggg! In the end, after talking with a couple of islanders, I will most likely settle for the campsite in the south and the other in the north.

Below are the 3 brave ones who went through the forest, braving gravel traps, wet paths, speedy downhill bumps in search of the potential sites, while their peers all went for clean open air cycling in other parts of Pulau Ubin.

Tired Out

Been out cycling the past 2 days but guess my inactivity all these years is getting to me. I was totally drained today on my way back from East Coast Park. Kept having to stop every now and then to recoup some energy else I would never be able to come home. I hope I can survive tomorrow's Pulau Ubin cycling trip.

Food Glorious Food!

Haha. Well, this is kind of an outdated entry. Went for a glorious afternoon of buffet with some of my pals from work at Carousel last week. In case you are wondering, it is at Royal Plaza on Scotts (ex-Holiday Inn). The buffet did not come cheap (about $40 per pax) but it was an afternoon of one final hurrah for the end of the school year. We were there when the buffet started at 12pm and did not leave until we got chased out at 2.30pm! Hwah! Hahahaha!

I have been wanting to come here for the buffet for a very long time. Was supposed to come with Sunshine but never got the chance to. I knew it was not cheap and it is damn good. Now that I have tried it, I am so tempted to go again. Have to look out for my wallet though. Hahaha.

The Sad Case Of The Music Scene In Singapore

I was introduced to songs sung by Olivia Ong some time back by someone and have found her voice to be quite enjoyable and very pleasant. I am not sure how well known she is in Singapore but she is a Singaporean afterall. Based in Japan, she is making a name for herself there as a respected singer. I was kind of surprised to find out that she is a local given the beautiful voice that I heard on the CD.

Such is the sad case of the music in Singapore. If a singer wishes to suceed, the singer cannot stay on in Singapore. The singer has to go to places like Taiwan or Japan to do very well. Think about it, the singers of days gone by like the Chopsticks Sisters or even Anita Sarawak, is very well known in Singapore and Malaysia. However, they never achieved the commercial success that the well-packaged artise we have now.

Singapore as a whole, have a mentality of being non-chalant. Not that it is on purpose but with the perennial failures that out supposed Team Singapore and our Artises encounter when they are nearing the pinnacle of their respective fields, it is hard to be really supportive.

Much as the government says it is supporting the arts scene, it is still baby steps. Well, at least they are taking baby steps now. However, I could never see Singapore being the arts haven it hopes to be with the mentality of the sitting government. Too pro-business, too rigid, too elite-centred, too money-centered, not people-centered. With the above flaws that is prevalent in the mindset of the powers that be, we will just end up being a "rojak" city, a mismash of everything but a master of nothing.

10 Days Countdown

Yeah, well. If things had gone ahead as I planned, I should be in Changi Airport Terminal 3 now, strolling around in the departure lounge. However, I am still at home, sitting in my room, typing this entry.

Anyway, I am setting myself until 25 November to leave Singapore. If I have not flown by then, I should be holed up in my room hibernating till December 28 then. Should I or should I not fly?

Consider Not What You Have Lost But What You Have Found

Through life we have many met with many people, many situations. We have had moments of joy and moments of sadness. However, I feel that, when we consider the things that we have found rather than the things that we had lost, we will feel the load off our shoulders.

I have been listening to the group Il Divo since they first came out and have always throughly enjoyed their songs. From operatic renditions of classic songs to songs of their own, it has been a real pleasure listening to them. One of the songs in their newest album, Amazing Grace, is a rendition of a classic Christian hymn. However, putting religion aside, this song is a very powerful song which gives hope to those who feels that life has dealt them a lousy hand or have ever felt lost.

In an earlier post sometime back, I had posted about this song when I last heard it on the movie Braveheart. The song then was a purely Scottish Bagpipes rendtion. I was moved to tears when I heard it then. Now, after listening to Il Divo's version, I am once more reminded that there is hope in life, as a tear trickles down the side of my face.

If you don't believe how good Il Divo's rendition of this song is, just watch their music video of Amazing Grace, recorded at a concert in Croatia.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev’d;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ’d!

Thro’ many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining like the sun,
We've no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

Avenue Q!

Just came back from Avenue Q with Sweetie! The musical was really great! The songs were very funny too. I throughly enjoyed myself tonight.

It has been a year since I last saw Sweetie and we caught up abit before the show. She looks better now but after the show, while in the taxi sending her home, I decided it is time to let her go too. It pains me but it is obvious so I do not want to take away her personal time anymore.

"In volatile market, only stable investment is porn!" - Trekkie Monster, Avenue Q

I'll Be Wishing On The Same Star And I'll Be Wishing On The Same Moon.

Look Again

There are times in our lives when we were bullied or cheated by someone. Due to situation such as this, from then on, some of us could only see the bad in everyone. Sometimes, even people such as ourselves, non-bullies or non-cheaters, make mistakes and inadvertently hurt someone. As such, not only did we not do any good by our good intentions, we may have cause the person to close their eyes to all the good things that happens in this world. In this world, good and bad co-exists in an equilibrium. It is up to the individual to decide which to focus upon. Too often we have been critical on others, focusing on their mistakes and faults, when in fact we should have tried to focused on the good and encourage it. Next time a situation or incidents happens infront of you, look again. You might be surprised by what you might see and feel happier.

Badminton & Plesant Surprise

Just came home from a round of badminton with my ex-colleague and her friend. It has been a very long time since I played it, I guess it would be during my final year in NTU. It has been a really long while. No wonder my grip is flaking all over. My fitness really showed when I could not chase some of the cross-court shots. I was teamed up with my ex-colleague's friend and yet both of us still lost to her. Ooooh, I am so very unfit! When I looked across at the couple playing in court next to ours, I was slightly amused at what I saw. The lady must have been perspiring during her game and soaked her clothes and undergarments.......but she was "excited". Hmmm, it sure was weird given that the hall was not cold and was in fact stuffy. Haha.

After the game, while on our way to the airport to chill out, I received a call from Chang-E! WAH! So happy! So happy! I have not spoken to her for very very long and did not know what to talk to her about. The worse thing was, I was the one who initiated the call cut off. Arggg! Stupid stupid! However, I am glad she accepted my invitation to go watch the musical Avenue Q and I am so looking forward to seeing her again. It has been a whole year. The last time we met, I was not so fat and had longer hair. Haha.

Cousin's Traditional Wedding Ceremony

My cousin finally went through with her Traditional Wedding Ceremony after registering her marriage for 2 years. Seeing how her hubby got tested at the gate by the sisters group, makes me wonder if I will ever get the opportunity of being the main character. Hmmm.... I guess not. So fat who want?
