expensive dental procedure

went for the first of my reconstructive dental appointment today. always take care of your teeth. the cost of my accident is still counting. till now, i have spent close to $1000 and another $5000 is being slated for my dental reconstructive procedure. hopefully i can claim all if not part of the remaining $5000 from my insurance policy. worst thing out of this besides the money? i do not know when i can next go diving. at least not for the next 4-5 months. which means the march trip is very unlikely for me. arggg!

always and never

time to close shop. no more things to ponder. 2 years is really stupid to have been spent on someone who has nothing but contempt. alas, fools are not suffered. exams are just round the corner. everybody was right and i was just deluding myself all this while. blind is the fool in a twirl of feelings. i should be an expert in making clean breaks by now. heck, i've done it twice, why not this third time? it just keeps getting easier each time. the first time took 18 months. the second time took 3 months. this third time should be about the same if not faster. woopie! i really hate the "always the best fried but never the boyfriend" tag! hate it hate it hate it! i will not delude myself by thinking that "it is their loss" cause they never lose. NEVER! it's time.

thrilling and exhilirating

it is always a thrill and exciting for me to read her e-mails. i always scan through it quickly, get the gist of it, delete it and sit back to ponder. after a couple of moments, i would recover the deleted e-mail, read through it again, this time slowly. kind words are never spoken for there is no place fot it. hatred is non existent for it is now plain simple indifference. i will never regret for the choices and decisions i make. i'll be upset with myself but never, ever regret. life is too short to be held back by such regrets. sympathies are not needed. mockery is most definately ill-advised.

all in a meal

ever pondered what goes in a meal? is it the food? is it the company? is it the ambience? for us chinese, we always sit down to have a meal together in all types of situations. when we get married, we have a meal. when a child reaches the first full month, we have a meal. when someone gets promoted, we have a meal. when it is somebody's birthday, we have a meal. when somebody is leaving the company, we have a meal. when someone is going overseas, we have a meal. when we try to settle grievances, we have a meal. when someone in the family passes away, we have a meal. up to 7 meals we have at funerals of the dearly departed! what is with all this eating, you might ponder.

thing is, sitting down together to have a meal is the best form of psychiatric and psychological treatment. when we sit down to have that meal, be it just 2 persons or in a large group, we all share. little news and updates, anecdotes and jokes. we show concern and help to comfort each other. there never is a dull moment at a meal. even when a meal is all silent, the presence of the company, can speak volumes greater than of those not present. sharing a meal might seem like a simple everyday affair but the intricacies of a meal goes beyond just food. you might come to a meal feeling upset but you will never leave a meal feeling worse. many a deals have been struck at meals. marriage proposals, business deals, cooperative agreements among many other wonderful stuff that are discussed or shared at a meal. such are the wonders of a meal.

magician or clown?

during lecture today, in an attempt to show the different characteristics of laser, the lecturer brought along a blue laser generator. he placed a blue balloon in front of the generator and turned it on. nothing happened. he later placed a red balloon in front of the generator and....POP! the balloon burst. he next took out another baloon, this time a blue balloon with a red balloon within. when he turned on the laser, guess what happened? POP! went the red balloon within but the blue balloon was still intact. with all the balloons and "magic" tricks, it makes you wonder if the lecturer is putting on a magic show or is missing colourful hair and a red nose.

design PEs are great fun

before this semester, i always felt that ntu professors are a boring bunch and have no sense of humour. with my semester about to draw to an end, i have been proven wrong. my lectureres for my design PEs are a jolly bunch. they can crack jokes with ease and the jokes are not the corny type! not only that, by making reference to many of everyday life, they have effectively exposed us to what is actually going on and show us the lighter side to various designs. attending the design PE lectures are always such great fun that i always look foward to them. i am glad i stuck with design instead of going for biomedical or aeronautics.

what a name

heard this in lecture today......(the following is unsubstantiated)

how did Sony get its name? before Sony was called Sony, it was known as TTT (Tokyo Telecommunication T-something). trying to break into the american market with the name TTT was not very easy as it did not stick easily in people's mind. while on one of his trips to new york, one of the co-founders of Sony saw the term NY and fell in love with it. when he went back to japan, he was lavishing about new york and went, "everything is so nice, so good , SO...NY!"

singaporeans love their acronyms. from ecp to hdb, acronyms are very much a part of our lives. ever wondered what some of the acronyms really stand for?
Oh Shit Its Monday! (go figure...hahahaha)

assigment headache

went back to school in the morning, wanting to settle my 460 assignment. alas, the lab opened too late and my partner wanted to study. in the end, we got nothing done. haiz. met up with indra & chee leong thereafter to settle the m363 assignment. we had q1 figured out but had some problems dealing with question 2. headache!

project wrap up

had a short medical appt today at sgh, just a routine follow up from my accident back in april. for only 5 mins my consultation fee was $21. haiz. and i was made to wait from 2pm till 2.43pm before it was my turn to see the doctor and i was early for my 2pm appointment!

rushed back to school to meet up with my group members to wrap up our m464 project. well, things look kind of almost done. just a few more adjustments and we should be ready to hand up on tuesday. claire was kind enough to fetch us to jurong point for dinner on her way to meeting her bf. sad to say, she only knew one route to get to jurong point and it was the longer 199 route! eepz, got car must learn lah.

edna, darren, chee keong and i had our dinner at kopitiam food court. we had thought of fish & co but the prices put them off so food court it was. edna was hoping to get a cover for her laptop and the "condom" nickname for the cover got stuck. hahaha. we even asked her if she wanted padding, tight fit or ribbed. hahaha.

"water hammer" effect in ntu

i'm currently stoning in ntu instead of going down to my fyp lab. i'm not being lasy just that i've got a project report due next week and i need to wrap up my drawings before tomorrow's meetup. i'm sitting next to the sealed windows and now and then there would be strong winds slamming on to the windows and cause the windows to rattle. if this was some old creekity building, ooooohhh

election war heats up in boon lay

i was heading home after school when i passed boon lay and saw opposition members of the political scene at boon lay mrt. csj & jbj were both there. to me, i feel that if the opposition were credible, i would not have to stiffle my laughter when i see them. well, ok, in a way i feel jbj is more credible than csj. but man, csj voice is real loud, no need loudspeaker also can hear from far. jbj was ther already last week and he's here again this week. he seems like a nice fella but i believe there are other ways to duel with people without getting sued. with both this heavyweight opposition leaders at boon lay mrt, it does sets me thinking, is there going to be a heated war for boon lay in the next GE?

new jacket!

i managed to get myself one of them MAE jackets today. yeah! in case you are wondering, MAE means mechanical and aerospace engineering, or as the students call it, mugging and exams, or makan and enjoy. basically it is the windbreaker designed by the MAE club. this year's design is a surprising hit with the student. i'm just glad i managed to get my hands on one piece. would have liked to get an XL-sized one, but alas they only had L size. L-size fits me but i would prefer baggy fit for my jackets and windbreakers, more comfy.

finally the 6 man project is finished!

i finally finished the project meant for 6 people to do. really really exhausting. why do i torture myself this way? haiz. first semester is starting to wind down soon. soon the exams will be here. eepz. i wonder how i'll do this time round. ireally do not want to fail anymore. it really is very very tiring to take 8 modules each semester.

saw her pic for today, wow! party mood. ah well, would love to go to one but i do not go to parties, not my style. ask me climb mt everest, swim english channel, dive to 60m, skydiving, all i no problem. parties? nah. never could blend in, i'm more like a thorn at one. i'm one of those cannot make it types who always hang by the fringes and always leave early and never missed.

sand and the "sea"

had a day at the beach with the dive gang today at sentosa. in the morning, the sky was very ominous looking and it did seem that we may have to cancel our outing. however, somebody up there was nice. after a short light rain, the skies cleared up, not enough for to sun to shine brightly again but enough to have an enjoyable time at the beach. i went in on my bicycle and in the process did not pay for entry. heez. met up with andrew, daniel, travis, alda, alex & alvin at the harbour frint intercahnge. berdnerd, belinda & raymond joined us later.

alda, alex and alvin made some sandwiches and potato salad for us all. it was really nice of them. heard that alex and alvin got burnt marks in the process. on my way in i noticed the monorail tracks and remebered that it will not be around anymore. i quickly took out my camera to get a shot of it.
Sandwich Threesome
Monorail Track
we went to sunset bay to play beach volleyball. had to pay $5 just to be able to play on the "courts". ah well. they gave us each a green tag to signify that we had paid. also did some kayaking at the lagoon area. i took one of them single and went to the edge to relax on my own. felt really calm out there. alda brought some potato salad to the volleyball area to eat but while we were taking photos, i was hungry and finished the whole container. oops. big fat alvin seems to be akan datang.
Group ShotEat & Eat & Eat & Eat.......
had a game of football and the gals joined in. they were pretty "rough" and i think i sprained my toe while running around. we had been mentioning that alda had yet to be thrown into the water yet and today, alex finally got her in. haha. and we even covered her in sand turning her into a human "muah chee". belinda looked on in laughter and did not want to get to near lest she got dragged in as well. after all the fun we had at the beach, we opted to go for dinner and a movie. the gang opted to shower at the NTUC resort while i went home to shower and to change my clothes. on my way out, i saw this peacock walking in the middle of the bus bay and found it very proud. too bad it did not open its tail.
Human Muah Chee
Peacock
by the time i had my shower and changed, the gang had yet to reach harbourfornt mrt station. so i quickly made my move to catch up with them at outram mrt station with our destination being plaza singapura. as the tickets the 6.50pm into the blue show was selling fast, we decided to watch the 9.20pm show instead at marina square. we adjorned to thai express for our dinner and i opted for the seafood phat thai. it was good but too much thai food in quick succession kind of makes it not as appealing. after the meal, we bid farewell to the folks heading home early, while the remaing 4 of us, alex, alda, raymond & i made our way to marina square for our movie.

we had some gelato before heading for the movie. as we were still early, alex and i tried our hand at the initial d racing game. i got to say i really lucked out and won both alex and alda in quick succession. however, i was soon soundly beatened by a regular of the game. ah well, i got in 3.5 races on my $1, can be considered a pretty good return.

the movie into the blue is pretty good. not because of the actress but because of the diving scenes. seeing the actors and actresses swimming among the rays and sharks really makes me want to to diving again. the water in the movie is so clear! dayang and tioman are nowhere near. i really look foward to my next dive trip.

from here on, until the end of november, we would not be meeting up as the exams are near. time to start studying for the exams. till we meet again!

quiz disaster

the 463 quiz was a complete disaster. had difficulties doing question 1 and did not know what question 2 was all about. arggg. damn! i fear for my final result now.

no sneek peeks at my favourite person today. i don't think she has any common lectures today. ah well, at least i hope that her adding me to her MSN list might mean a thawing of the frostiness between us. i really want to make contact but fear the backlash or rather the embarassment.

going to sentosa with the dive gang tomorrow. yeah! something to relax with. after a week of studying and bullshit, it would be good to wind down. it would be our final outing for now till after the exams. haiz. exams are so stressful!

NSpay, smoke & quiz

recieved a sms this morning saying that i will be recieving my NS pay. i was like eh? the only thing remotely close to what i did for my NSmen status recently was to take my IPPT. and wow! for that short moment there i was paid a wordly ransom of...................$9! hahahahaha.

after newspaper reports yesterday of ENV's clampdown on smokers at bus interchanges, suddenly the straggling few smokers still testing the system at boon lay interchange have disappeared. at last! no need to walk through a curtain of smoke each time i walk from the mrt station to the 179 berth. i wish the government would ban cigarrettes as soon as possible. if bahrain (pronounced as BAH!-rain, empasis on the h sound, not Baa-rain, as in baa baa black sheep) can do it, why not us. i hate having to walk through a second cloud of smoke everyday when i walk from the bustop in school to LT1. that area is not a smoking corner of the canteen!

got a quiz tomorrow. haiz. will be staying late in school today to study for it. i know if i go home, i will only stagnate. this is the only way i will ever put some study in. fluids engineering - water bang here bang there, sound goes boom boom that one. haha!

study? for what?!

came home feeling tired from a day of school. still wondering what on earth am i here for. my results are barely there and till now i still feel no urgency when everyone else is, STUDY AH! and i'm in my final year!

whipped up some curry shicken for the family tonight for dinner. i don't think i'm that great a cook but at least i should be able to get by on my own. although it would be nice to have someone cook for me. then again, not that i'm lambasting singaporean gals, but after those of my mum's generation, most of them can't even cook a half decent meal. instant noodles do not count!

when i do graduate, do i really want to stay on in engineering? or would i be heading for some other profession? banking perhaps? nah, at best i'll have a 3rd class honors, banks want 2nd upper and higher. what i wouldn't go into is insurance. definately not my cup of tea. i can talk but i can't sell things.

don't complain no buses

ntu students always complain of not being able to get on the 179 bus in the morning at boon lay interchange. what i saw while on the way to school leaves me somewhat bewildered though. i reached ntu at about 9.30am. while the bus was travelling from hall 2 to the canteen a bus stop, i noticed that there were 5 double decker 179 buses in front of my bus. on top of that, there were 3 more double decker 179 behind my bus. when we reached canteen a bus stop, there were 6 179 double decker buses queing that the tail back was until simtech! in total, for the stretch of road from the entrance to NTU until canteen canteen a, there were a total of 9 179 double decker buses! not counting those that had already passed the canteen a bus stop but yet to leave the ntu campus. what the hell! there is like almost 10 double decker 179 buses and yet we still are late for school. very bewildering indeed!

quality assurance or law?

currently rushing my quality assurance & management module project. with all the law topics involved in my project, it really sets me thinking. is this a law module or a quality assurance module? arggg....stresss ah!

macritchie & esplanade

just returned home from a very eventful day without the dive group. we met up around 2pm at macritchie and had a pinic at the gazebo located in the middle of a pool. by the time we finished our pinic, a few of the people were too lazy to take the walk. so Alda, Alvin, Andy Jeannie & myself proceeded to trek to the tree-top walk bridge while, andrew, belinda, berdnerd & travis took andrew's car and drove to venus drive which is closer. along the way we met many intresting animals. alda got so excited when she found a male monkey aroused and erected. hahahaha. we took about 45 mins to walk from macritchie to the tree top area. by the time we reached there, we took our time to stroll across the bridge.

the entire trip was full of jokes and topics bodering on obscene. hahaha. the gals are on such a steep learning curve when learning about new words and of their secondary meanings. hahaha.

we were all tired after the trek and a few of us decided to meet up later for dinner and a chill out session. we met up again around 8.30pm and headed to thai express at citylink mall. the food is ok and the price not too expensive. after dinner we headed over to esplanade to look for a place to chill, alas there were no seats available at the coffee place. we took in some jazz performance at the open air theatre and i must say it was pretty good. i never fail to be impressed by the acts performing at the open air theatre. in the end we settled for a desert place at one fullerton. the desert is only so so, price is about there but hated their policy of no plain water. forcing us to choose between evain water or no plain water. bad service. we had a good laugh at our trek earlier and of the things mentioned. we even had berdnerd try his hand at being a drag queen. we must say, he looks pretty good.
