lunch with the guys

came to school late for my lecture today. bad boy i am. i then went around looking at the carnival the union had put on as a welcome back sort of thing for the students. i for one am not happy to see pets being openly sold at this carnival. although university students are supposed to be matured people, working term being supposed, many of them, both guys & gals, will still be tempted to buy them because the gerbills and the rabbits look so cute. even the rabbits reminded me of Orange. pets are a commitment and should not be bought on impulse because it will only lead to abandonment when they are no longer cute or when they become a chore to look after, whichever strikes first.

another big turn off at the carnivals are banks and insurance companies. don't the MAS already have some provisions of allowing people from signing up for credit cards at road shows. this same provision should be enforced upon debit cards too. i agree that unlike credit cards, debit cards relies upon each individual's account balance, much like NETS, but it is only the step of getting the students hooked upon payment by plastic, and soom their own credit card upon graduation. i agree that credit cards are a convenience, given that i am a user myself, but with the high number of bankruptcies in singapore, something has to be done to stop this downward spiral of uncontrollable spending of "future" money. then again you might argue that this is where self-control has to be exercised. if self-control is so easily exercised, then why do so many people still smoke? if the temptation is not there, the deed will not be done. simple as that. i'm not saying that everytime we find something wrong we go, "get the government involved, ask them to come up with some policy". that is the wrong way of getting hings done. more should be done to educate the public of the pitfalls of credit card usage, or for any vices for that matter. credit card users shouldn't think that, if they can't pay, they can always apply for bankruptcy protection. that is plain shirking of responsibility. another thing would be the Insurance companies. they keep asking us to sign up for some health policy or to take up some form of financial planing. if we want, we would approach you. there is no need for the in-your-face approach. they are starting to be as big a turn off as MLM, and don't even get me started on MLM or Network Marketing.

saw malcolm, frankie & desmond at the fair today. i had wanted to go for a swim today as i had a 3 hour break after my M463 lecture but frankie asked me to join them for lunch. ah well...i am still feeling some aches and pains from yesterday's exertions.

hanging around at the library now waiting for my M462 lecture. tutorial-less module, lectures must attend.
