Art Or Vandalism?

A canvas has been lying dormant for very long. Many have passed it and some have left their marks on the canvas. However, through the years, this canvas is still very much a plain canvas. Of recent, there is an artist making its mark on the canvas. Is this canvas being used as a backing for a beautiful art or is it being vandalized to cater for the whims of the artist?
